We live in a world, in 2019, that is constantly at peril of the next seismic shiver caused by this or that information security breach. Even when information security is not in the headlines, it is often at the root of whatever is making the news. The public release in the United States of the Mueller Report, already something of a legend in its own time, quickly became a tempest in a teakettle heated by the burning question of whether and to what extent hackers interfered in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

If elections aren't safe, then what is? Many experts are of the opinion that almost nothing is completely untouchable. As computers and the internet become more and more deeply integrated into almost every human activity, information security has become an increasingly pressing concern.  Is it even possible to have enough skilled security professionals to protect everything? We may never find out.

Whether or not we ever arrive at a future where there are enough information security professionals, everyone agrees that we need more of them right now. And certification is an important part of both building up the supply of trained professionals and maintaining the skills of the trained professionals we already have.
