W. Hord Tipton Assumes Executive Director Role

<p><strong>Palm Harbor, Fla. &mdash; July 10</strong><br />(ISC)2 (&ldquo;ISC-squared&rdquo;), the nonprofit global provider of education and certification information for security professionals, announced its Board of Directors has appointed W. Hord Tipton, CISSP-ISSEP, CAP, CISA, CNSS, to the role of executive director. Tipton replaces Eddie Zeitler, CISSP, who left the company to pursue other interests. <br /><br />A member of the Board of Directors since 2005 and of the (ISC)2 U.S. Government Advisory Board since 2003, Tipton previously served as chief information officer for the U.S. Department of the Interior for five years. There, Tipton managed IT operations for 2,500 DOI offices, with 3,650 IT employees, 5,800 contracted employees and an IT portfolio of $1.2 billion. <br /><br />In early 2007, he left government service to become president and chief executive officer of Ironman Technologies, where his clients included IBM, Perot Systems, EDS, Booz Allen Hamilton and Symantec.<br /><br />Tipton previously served in a number of business areas prior to his work as a full-time CIO. He was directly responsible for balancing resource usage involving forestry, recreational programs, mineral extraction, law enforcement and wild land firefighters throughout the United States. </p><p>He also served as director for international programs for the Minerals Management Service. Before entering government service, he worked for 13 years as an engineer for Union Carbide Nuclear Corporation in Oak Ridge, Tenn.<br /><br />Tipton holds a bachelor&rsquo;s degree from the University of Morehead and a master&rsquo;s degree from the University of Tennessee. He received the Distinguished Rank Award for government service from the president of the United States. <br /><br />&ldquo;This is a very exciting time in (ISC)2&rsquo;s history,&rdquo; Tipton said. &ldquo;As we approach our 20th anniversary as an organization, I am extremely honored to accept this position and plan to build on the tremendous success (ISC)2 has experienced in recent years. <br /><br />&ldquo;I look forward to working with our certified members around the world to take (ISC)2 to the next level as the leader in developing security professionals across the globe. I also want to increase awareness beyond the security community of the contribution our members and our organization offer each and every day to make the cyberworld a safer place for all.&rdquo; <br /><br />In regard to Zeitler&rsquo;s tenure as executive director, Tipton said, &ldquo;Eddie has made many invaluable contributions to (ISC)2 over the years, both as a volunteer in the organization&rsquo;s early days and as the head of the company for the past two years. His team-building skills have enabled us to grow both in size and in spirit. The board and (ISC)2 staff are deeply thankful to him for everything he has done for (ISC)2 and wish him the very best in his future endeavors.&rdquo;<br /></p>
