Cambridge, Mass. — Feb. 10
SYWARE Inc., a developer of intuitive database tools for business and personal productivity, announced it has extended its database development software, Visual CE and mEnable, to allow synchronization and direct access to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet from any Windows Mobile handheld. Data in this desktop database format can now be easily read and modified on a handheld, SYWARE says.

Visual CE's intuitive drag-and-drop interface allows users to create data collection and information access applications. mEnable allows wireless access to data over any TCP/IP network, including the Internet.

"SYWARE's Visual CE, together with Microsoft Excel, combines what Pocket PC Magazine called the ‘Best Database Software’ with the world’s most popular spreadsheet," said Sy Danberg, president of SYWARE Inc. "And, when used with SYWARE's mEnable software, it is now possible to see and change data in your desktop spreadsheet from anywhere in the world over the Internet."

Visual CE allows users to build their own databases and create custom forms. Available in Personal, Professional or Mobile 360 editions, the software is designed to support the features available in Windows Mobile devices, including data synchronization, barcodes and image support.

Programmers and business professionals can use Visual CE to create a variety of database and forms applications. Applications draw from a set of common controls: labels, edit boxes, note boxes, check boxes, radio buttons, command buttons and drop-down lists. Font control, device-based printing, timestamps, digital ink (scribble) and simple calculations also are supported.

Additional features include support for cameras, barcodes, grids, data filtering, wild card searches, password protection and calculations across records. Controls can be sized, dragged and positioned as necessary using the desktop WYSIWYG (What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get) development environment.
