Step Away from the Blackberry
I saw a news video clip recently on the Internet that said employers may actually be legally liable for employees’ addictions to cell phones and Blackberries. Apparently experts say that if people aren’t careful, they may require treatment similar to what drug addicts get to cure them of this modern-day ill. Yikes. And you thought the name Crackberry was bad. How about hand-held heroin?
Ever heard of the Blackberry check-in program? It’s not a rehab facility for the too-technologically inclined. It’s a new amenity being offered by the Sheraton Hotel in Chicago. No doubt other hotels will soon follow suit, if they haven’t already, to accommodate those poor suckers who must travel for business. You know the ones, their ears are all red or they appear crazy since they’re always talking on ear pieces and jumping nervously at every ring tone they hear. If you’re one of those techies who’s perennially glued to your mobile device, you may want to consider taking a break from it. If your boss won’t let you, you might casually make a joking-like statement alluding to the company’s legal responsibility to allow you to not be in contact 24X7. Or be an IT gangster, buy a few more iPods and things, and attempt to OD. That’ll teach those slave drivers a lesson!
