Spock’s Ears—Sold! For $1,000 apiece
Trekkies take note: A huge Star Trek auction is scheduled to go down this fall, but not before the vast collection makes an international tour for gawkers. CBS Paramount Studios is supplying more than 4,000 items, which span all five of the TV series, as well as several of the movies. The sale—to be held Oct. 5-7—will be hosted by famed auctioneering company Christie’s at Rockefeller Center in New York City.
Lucky Trek fans can catch this exhibit during stops in San Diego, London, Las Vegas, Seattle and Los Angeles leading up to the auction. Also, the paraphernalia will be displayed for a week in NYC prior to the sale.
Some of the higher-end items include both Capt. Kirk and Jean-Luc Picard’s uniforms (I wonder if the buyers will ever actually put them on…) and miniature models of the Enterprise (though not the one in the Smithsonian, obviously), which may fetch prices in the tens of thousands of dollars. Trekkies with far less disposable income need not despair, though: Props, weapons, set pieces and other items from lesser-known shows and characters might be obtained for around a couple hundred bucks. The auction is expected to raise $3 million-plus overall.
