Safari Books Online Deal With John Wiley & Sons
Sebastopol, Calif. — Nov. 1
Safari® Books Online, an on-demand electronic reference and learning platform and a joint venture of O’Reilly Media Inc. and Pearson Technology Group, announced an agreement with John Wiley & Sons, Inc. to include selected Wiley business and technology titles in the Safari Books Online Library. With the addition of Wiley, Safari’s exclusive database now includes fully searchable trusted content from all of the top four technology publishers. With this new agreement, Safari’s institutional, corporate and B2C customers will gain access to authoritative content from Wiley’s best-selling authors and branded imprints, making Safari Books Online the only online service where users can search across content from all four top technology publishers.
The first Wiley titles are scheduled to appear on Safari Books Online in December 2007. Among the titles to be added to the Safari service are titles from the For Dummies series, the comprehensive Bible series of computer titles, and best-sellers and proven key references in the business category. Technology titles include Office 2007 For Dummies and Microsoft Sharepoint 2007 For Dummies, the Actionscript 3.0 Bible and Excel 2007 Bible, Effective Methods for Software Testing and Breakthrough IT: Supercharging Organizational Value through Technology.
Top titles in business range from Price Waterhouse Coopers 2008 Guide to Tax and Financial Planning to the Ernst & Young Business Plan Guide, Mastering Virtual Teams and Accounting Best Practices, 5th Ed. Fifteen titles appearing in the Safari digital library are slated for print publication over the next three months.
The Wiley collection in Safari Books Online will complement Safari’s developer content as well as bolster product management and frequently searched business topics. Safari’s exclusive database now includes fully searchable, trusted technical and training content from all four top technology publishers in the market today. Pearson, John Wiley & Sons, O’Reilly Media and Microsoft Press represent over 85 percent of the computer books sold at retail in the U.S., according to Nielsen Bookscan figures.
“Safari Books Online, an increasingly popular on-demand reference library, is an excellent channel partner for us and will ensure enterprise and individual access to Wiley titles globally,” said Kristin Kliemann, VP & Director, Global Rights of John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
“Wiley is one of the most acclaimed and respected publishers in the industry and our association brings top technology and business titles, such as some of the popular For Dummies series, to our subscribers,” said Jeff Patterson, CEO of Safari Books Online. “The addition of Wiley to Safari’s growing list of top publishers, coupled with Safari’s popular user experience, will enable us to strengthen our position as a premier business and technology content provider.”
