Safari Books Online: Key Executive Appointments

<p><strong>Sebastopol, Calif. &mdash; Aug. 23</strong><br />Safari Books Online, an on-demand reference and learning platform and a joint venture of O&#39;Reilly Media Inc. and Pearson Technology Group, has announced two executive appointments effective Aug. 27.<br /><br />CJ Rayhill will be senior vice president of product management and technology, and Chip Pettibone will become vice president of research and development.<br /><br />”Over the past several months, we have seen significant changes in the online publishing ecosystem, indicating that the marketplace is heating up,” CEO Jeff Patterson said. “Safari is well-positioned to take advantage of these changes. To continue on our growth path, we are increasing our pace in research and development, as well as scaling our organization to support new products and services. </p><p>”These key personnel assignments, coupled with our existing core strengths, will enable Safari to continue to capitalize on the growing interest in online publishing.”<br /><br />Previously chief information officer for O&#39;Reilly Media, Rayhill will oversee technology strategy, product development and product management in her new role at Safari. </p><p>Rayhill brings a proven record of achievement in managing complex IT and product teams, as well as an understanding of customer needs. </p><p>She spent the majority of her career in software development and technology management in the financial services and health care industries prior to joining O&#39;Reilly in 2000. </p><p>She is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, having attended Annapolis with the first class of women in 1980, and served as a geophysics officer in the Navy. </p><p>She also holds a master&#39;s degree in business administration from the University of South Florida.<br /><br />Formerly vice president, product management at Safari, Pettibone will apply his passion for delighting the customer, along with a keenly analytical approach, in his new research and development role. </p><p>He will focus on identifying, developing and incorporating new features and functionality into Safari&#39;s market-leading portfolio. </p><p>Before joining Safari, Pettibone was CEO of Red Bridge Interactive, a developer of Web content management solutions. </p><p>Before Red Bridge, he led the effort to build and release Context Media&#39;s first two versions of enterprise content integration products. </p><p>Previously, he spent seven years with Electronic Book Technologies (acquired by Inso), a pioneer in SGML- and XML-based electronic publishing applications, where he held many senior product management and sales positions.</p>
