Revving Up For the Demand for Security Pros
A previous CertMag.com Web poll question asked readers, “Do you have a security certification?” And a whopping 70 percent of respondents voted, “No, but I plan to get one soon.” Which is definitely smart on their part with the demand for security IT professionals on the rise. And on the rise it is: With a simple search for security jobs on Dice.com, almost 14,000 open positions were listed for security professionals.
The surprising thing about our Web poll was that only 16 percent of respondents said they held a security certification. I am sure 16 percent is more than were probably certified in security five to ten years ago, but I expected that more people would have jumped on the security bandwagon last year.
That said, it is never too late. If you would like to get into a niche like security, which has high monetary rewards and job stability, it may be time to check out the top certifications offered by ISACA, (ISC)2 and SANS. Professionals who hold security certifications or a combination of security certifications from these organizations earn some of the highest salaries in IT.
So if words like cyberespionage, spyware, firewalls and hacker either send you mind racing in excitement or even spark some interest, seeking a career or certification in security may be just up your alley.
