It's time for another survey! Please take our 2019 Security Certification Survey. We live in a world, in 2019, that is constantly at peril of the next seismic shiver caused by this or that information security breach. Even when information security is not in the headlines, it is often at the root of whatever is making the news. The public release in the United States of the Mueller Report, already something of a legend in its own time, quickly became a tempest in a teakettle heated by the burning question of whether and to what extent hackers interfered in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

If elections aren’t safe, then what is? Many experts are of the opinion that almost nothing is completely untouchable. As computers and the internet become more and more deeply integrated into almost every human activity, information security has become an increasingly pressing concern.  Is it even possible to have enough skilled security professionals to protect everything? We may never find out.

Whether or not we ever arrive at a future where there are enough information security professionals, everyone agrees that we need more of them right now. And certification is an important part of both building up the supply of trained professionals and maintaining the skills of the trained professionals we already have.

If you’re one of the certified information security professionals who is out there involved, on some level, in protecting and securing digital assets, then you’ve come to the right place. We want to find out all about your certification experience. Has certification helped you thrive? Are existing certification programs meeting your needs?

We also want to infiltrate the information security world just a bit and get a snapshot of what the men and women on the inside see there each day. All aboard! The Certification Magazine survey train is boarding at the station, and we want you to be the next person to get a ticket for our Security Certification Survey.

As we always do, we’ve added a dash of incentive to participate. If you take the survey all the way to the end, we’ll thank you with either (or both!) of two rewards. You can get a free digital copy of the next issue of Certification Magazine. Or get a one-year print subscription at 40 percent off the normal cost. (Hate making decisions? Get ‘em both! We don’t mind.)

BIG THANKS to everyone who participated in our Cybersecurity Certification Survey! Watch for the results to appear the forthcoming 2019 Summer Edition of Certification Magazine.

  1. I love how some details that are clearly personally identifiable attributes are mandatory to answer. This is a *security* survey; I do not know who would readily provide this information considering the privacy policies wrapped around it.

I guess, to their credit, it isn’t about what one things about privacy policies and what happens to the data once in the hands of numerous third-party marketing companies.

Also, the survey required “javascript” to be enabled, but no reference was made to specifically which scripts were required to be enabled for the survey to run. The “Marketing” script was not required, for example–but the “certmag.com” script was.

Javascript is not all or nothing–asking a security person a yes or no question… ever hear of Deny by Default? Tell your audience, the security people, what we should whitelist. If you’re honest with us–maybe we will enable the marketing script, too, since that trust was established.

Regardless, I couldn’t participate in the survey knowing that the first few questions pretty much go against even what the most basic IT security certifications teach the beginners. There was no option to skip them, and not even a “fill in the blank” option. Therefore, I could not take ANY of the survey because the questions were not-negotiable and neither is my personally identifable information.

Privacy is a luxury; once you give it away, you can’t easily buy it back.
