Chelmsford, Mass., Jan. 25
O’Hara & Co., a leading full service business financial advisory firm that specializes in guiding businesses through the exit planning process, announced the creation of an educational Web site for business owners at www.exitplanning-edu.com.

Bob O’Hara, CPA/PFS, MST and founder of O’Hara & Co., created the Web site to fill an educational void in the business community. The Web site is updated continuously and provides information, white papers, presentations and links to articles that will educate business owners and their advisers. The Web site covers topics including identifying the business owner’s objectives, business valuation, promoting business value, third-party sales, internal sales and contingency planning.

“The time for a business owner to create a custom strategic exit plan that is most beneficial to the business and the owner is long before the owner thinks about transitioning from the business,” said O’Hara. “By taking control of the process, business owners work with a team of professionals to ensure that the transition of their business is successful and that all of their financial and personal goals are met.”

O’Hara noted that a typical “seller” profile is an owner between 50 and 65 years of age who controls all or most of the ownership interest. He also said that according to recent Small Business Administration statistics, 40 percent of all closely held businesses will transfer ownership within the next five to ten years, and that two-thirds of all business transfers are internal (either to an employee or member of the owner’s family).
