Nortel Networks, a leading provider of networking and communications services and infrastructure, has launched two new certifications to support the latest release of Communication Server 1000, with a third credential to be released this month, company officials announced.

The first program, NNCDS – Communication Server (CS) 1000 Release 4.0 certification, validates the ability to design and plan Communication Server 1000 Release 4.0 products to support a client’s business requirements. To earn this credential, candidates must successfully complete two exams: “Technology Standards and Protocols for IP Telephony Solutions (#920-803)” and “Communication Server (CS) 1000 Release 4.0 (#920-141).”

The “Communication Server (CS) 1000 Release 4.0”proctored exam for this certification will cover Nortel Networks Communication Server 1000 Software 4.0, Communication Server 1000 systems, Enterprise Media Gateway 1000 systems, IP Phones 2002 and 2004, and Softphone 2050. The exam tests understanding of several topics, including system overview (54 percent of exam questions), system design (38 percent) and network design (8 percent).

Nortel Networks also has released NNCSS – Communication Server (CS) 1000 Rls. 4.0 Database Administrator, which confirms certification holders can configure, administer, maintain and perform day-to-day operational activities for a Communication Server (CS) 1000 Rls. 4.0 system database. Participants also have to pass two exams to earn this credential: “Technology Standards and Protocols for IP Telephony Solutions (#920-803)” and “Communication Server (CS) 1000 Rls. 4.0 Database Administrator (#920-324).”

The “Communication Server (CS) 1000 Rls. 4.0 Database Administrator” exam will cover Nortel Networks Communication Server 1000 Software 4.0, Communication Server 1000 Systems, IP Phones (2001, 2002, and 2004) and Softphone 2050, Optivity Telephony Manager (OTM) 2.2 and Enterprise Media Gateways 1000. Exam objectives include administration (28 percent of exam questions), configuration (26 percent) element manager (22 percent) and features and services (14 percent).

The “Technology Standards and Protocols for IP Telephony Solutions” exam, required for both of these certifications, was recently released. It replaces the previous VoIP Technology exam (#920-801), which was retired in July. Participants who have already passed the #920-801 VoIP Technology exam will not be required to take the updated version (#920-803), as it still counts as credit toward these certifications.

The third Communication Server certification, NNCSS – Communication Server (CS) 1000 Rls. 4.0 Installation & Maintenance (I&M), is scheduled for release early this month. It will require three exams, two of which are already available.
