Palo Alto, Calif. — Nov. 15
Voltage Security Inc., a global provider of information encryption, and Proofpoint Inc., a provider of unified e-mail security and data loss prevention solutions, announced that National Life Group, an independent financial services organization headquartered in Vermont, has selected Voltage SecureMail, Proofpoint Secure Messaging and Proofpoint Regulatory Compliance to provide secure e-mail communication with its network of more than 11,000 agents throughout the United States.

National Life Group selected the Voltage/Proofpoint solution for the following attributes:

• Innovative approach to providing encryption, based on breakthrough Voltage Identity-Based Encryption (IBE) technology that works easily and is intuitive to end users.

• Integration with Proofpoint’s industry-leading e-mail security solutions.

• Assistance in implementation beginning with a successful pilot project and through the “go-live” phase.

• Overall ease of doing business with Voltage and Proofpoint, especially in understanding insurance business processes and the nature of the independent agent relationship.

“It was like a breath of fresh air when we looked at the Voltage/Proofpoint solution,” said Andrew Speirs, information security officer for National Life Group. “We looked at traditional PKI solutions, but there was no way we wanted to deal with that nightmare of key management. Then we looked at Web mail solutions, but we did not want to create the management issues associated with working with a third-party data center for archived e-mail. When we found Voltage, we recognized immediately the benefits of their innovative approach to encryption. And, then, working with the Voltage and Proofpoint teams on implementation was a truly successful partnership.”

“National Life Group needed a solution that did not put the computer between the agent and the customer. Insurance is a face-to-face business, and the key to Voltage is that it is so intuitive that there is basically zero impact on the normal flow of e-mail,” said Sathvik Krishnamurthy, president and CEO of Voltage Security.

“With Voltage, all of our security concerns were addressed. It’s like doing business with any reputable e-commerce site; set up a password and go,” continued Speirs. “We make a promise to our clients to safeguard their data and we mean to keep that promise.”

The National Life Group implementation features Voltage SecureMail technology seamlessly integrated with the Proofpoint Regulatory Compliance module, which provides a robust policy engine enhanced with specific rules written to meet the unique needs of National Life. E-mails are scanned for specific instances of personal data, such as social security numbers, ABA routing numbers, etc., and e-mails containing such content are automatically encrypted and delivered.

“By making it easy to automatically detect messages that contain sensitive content and then encrypt those messages using Voltage IBE technology, Proofpoint helps companies enforce best practices for privacy protection and aids in compliance with many different types of e-mail-related data protection regulations,” said Gary Steele, CEO of Proofpoint.
