<p><strong>Santa Clara, Calif. &mdash; Dec. 16</strong><br />Mimosa Systems, a provider of live content archiving solutions, announced the new Mimosa NearPoint Retention and Classification Option (RCO), which provides the ability to intelligently and automatically classify and tag archived content. </p><p>An add-on module to the Mimosa NearPoint platform, Mimosa RCO helps organizations lower storage costs and expedite e-discovery by enabling intelligent, consistent, automated management of user-generated content based on policy.<br /><br />&ldquo;Our research suggests that organizations are going to archive over 27,000 petabytes of e-mail over the next four years,&rdquo; said Brian Babineau, senior analyst in the Enterprise Strategy Group. </p><p>&ldquo;Rising storage costs and flat IT budgets drive the need for more efficient archiving management. Data classification solutions like Mimosa NearPoint RCO provide the necessary capability for IT to automate many of the information management tasks that need to be carried out in e-mail archive environments.&rdquo;<br /><br />Facing exponential increases in user-generated content, such as e-mail and files, organizations need an effective solution to classify this content to better manage compliance and optimize storage costs. Without an ability to automatically classify content based on business rules, many organizations have instituted time-consuming manual classification processes with inconsistent results that can potentially heighten security breaches and put critical data at risk.<br /><br />&ldquo;We attempted to perform massive cleanup campaigns to get more control over our growing e-mail repositories,&rdquo; John VanNice, IT director of the city of Lenexa. &ldquo;This manual process was extremely labor intensive and took us away from our critical path. The new option uses granular business rules to automatically set retention periods and apply specific tags to content. </p><p>These tags can drive multiple actions such as marking a piece of content as potentially responsive to an ongoing investigation or legal matter or explicitly declaring content a business record as part of the company file plan. Delivering faster e-discovery through more consistent, defensible and executable retention policies, NearPoint RCO:<br /></p><ul><li>Classifies any content coming into the archive based on business rules such as sender, receiver, phrases, keywords, numbers in the body, attachment or file.</li><li>Applies new policies or changes to existing policies to historical content in place in the NearPoint archive, without rearchiving the original content.</li><li>Provides an intuitive user console to centrally manage retention, review judgments and disposition rules of individual or groups of business records.</li><li>Enables administrators to subscribe to policies and receive e-mails whenever the archive detects a policy hit.</li></ul><br />&ldquo;To better manage storage costs and expedite e-discovery, companies are eager to institute more granular classification and retention policies,&rdquo; said Scott Whitney, vice president of product management for Mimosa Systems. &ldquo;Mimosa NearPoint RCO gives companies an automated retention management solution that is more consistent, defensible and executable so that they can eliminate the need for manual classification.
