McDonald’s Executive Receives Motivator Award

<p><strong>Oak Brook, Ill. &mdash; May 22</strong><br />The Elliott Group, an executive search and strategic consultant company for the hospitality, food service and manufacturing industries, honored Steve Russell, McDonald&#39;s USA senior vice president of human resources, with its prestigious Motivator of the Year Award.&nbsp; </p><p>Russell received the award during the 22nd-annual Elliot Group&rsquo;s leadership conference May 3 at New York&#39;s Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.<br /><br />In its 18th year, the Elliot Motivator of the Year Award was developed to recognize those individuals who are leaders in pioneering the way and setting standards of excellence in human resources.&nbsp; </p><p>Each year, hundreds of nomination forms are submitted, and a jury panel is established to select the recipients.&nbsp; </p><p>This year&rsquo;s panel consisted of some of the industry&#39;s most prominent and respected individuals from magazines, including <em>Fortune </em>and <em>Nation&rsquo;s Restaurant News</em>.<br /><br />&ldquo;Steve&rsquo;s dedication to brand McDonald&rsquo;s, our restaurants and most importantly, our employees, transcends his everyday responsibilities,&rdquo; said Don Thompson, McDonald&rsquo;s USA president. &ldquo;He has earned recognition as a dynamic motivator and people champion. Steve is committed to providing opportunities and career enhancement at all levels within the organization, and his attentiveness and commitment to employees&rsquo; needs has earned McDonald&rsquo;s industry recognition as one of the Best Companies to Work for.&quot;<br /><br />Russell oversees all aspects of human resources for McDonald&rsquo;s USA.&nbsp; </p><p>In this role, he is responsible for developing and implementing breakthrough HR strategies for McDonald&rsquo;s U.S. business.&nbsp; </p><p>This includes improving talent through better identification and selection of employees of McDonald&rsquo;s U.S. headquarters and the company&rsquo;s regional and divisional employees and reducing turnover in the more than 2,000 plus company-owned U.S. restaurants.&nbsp; </p><p>Russell also works with McDonald&rsquo;s 2,200 U.S. franchisees and the nearly 12,000 franchise-owned McDonald&rsquo;s restaurants in the United States to provide recommendations and assistance with their HR efforts and programs.<br /><br />With more than 25 years experience in business and Human Resources, Russell joined McDonald&rsquo;s in 1996 in the human resource department as director of corporate human resources.&nbsp; </p><p>Since then, he has held many positions, including: senior director of McDonald&rsquo;s human resources service center and global technology departments (1998-1999), senior director of the human resources design center (1999-2000), vice president of global human resources for McDonald&rsquo;s Innovate initiative (2001-2002) and vice president of human resources for McDonald&rsquo;s Partner Brands &mdash; Boston Market and Chipotle Mexican Grill &mdash; (2002-2003).<br /><br />Born in Highland Park, Ill., Russell received his bachelor&#39;s degree from the Ohio State University and an MBA from the University of Dayton.&nbsp; </p>
