Southbury, Conn. — Oct. 31
Juran announced that it has partnered with the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to implement a Six Sigma improvement initiative. The LAUSD is the second largest school district in the nation, providing educational services to more than 700,000 students and employing just under 80,000 individuals. Steven Brandick, director of the Paraeducator Career Ladder program, is responsible for the development of LAUSD’s human resources strategic plan.

This initiative will focus on the strategic planning necessary to fundamentally change the manner in which human resources functions, as well as ensure that its goals are aligned with the larger district goals pertaining to educator quality and efficient use of tax dollars. The three human resources strategic goals are to improve recruitment, qualification, and placement of qualified teachers and administrators; to contribute to employee satisfaction by improving all human resource processes and services; and to improve staff capacity and leadership at all levels.

Juran Vice President Mike Moscynski is providing training and support to the LAUSD throughout this Six Sigma deployment. Moscynski specializes in intelligence gathering and analysis, strategic business planning, management, marketing, project management and delivering a variety of quality programs to clients. The idea of implementing a Six Sigma improvement initiative in K-12 school districts is relatively new, and Juran is up for the challenge.
