Job-Seeker Optimism Significantly Stronger Than in February

<strong>Minneapolis &mdash; March 6</strong><br />Despite factors such as the continuing flat stock market, subprime mortgage scandals, fears of recession and uncertainty in the political arena, college students and recent graduates are increasingly optimistic about the prospects they face in the job market.<br /><br />CollegeRecruiter.com, a job board for college students searching for internships and recent graduates hunting for entry-level jobs and other career opportunities, conducts a monthly poll in which candidates are asked, "If you were to start looking for a new job today, how many months would you expect it to take to find one?" The results have been:<br /><br /><ul><li><strong>November: </strong>75 percent of respondents expected it would take them only three or fewer months to find a job, and fewer than 13 percent believed it would take them longer than a year.</li><li><strong>December:</strong> 74 percent expected that it would take them only three or fewer months to find a job, but only 5 percent believed it would take them longer than a year.</li><li><strong>January:</strong> 69 percent expected it would take them only three or fewer months, and slightly more than 8 percent believed that it would take them longer than a year.</li><li><strong>February:</strong> 65 percent expected that it would take them only three or fewer months, and almost 6 percent believed it would take them longer than a year.</li><li><strong>March:</strong> 74 percent expected that it would take them only three or fewer months, but more than 12 percent believed that it would take them longer than a year.</li></ul><br />"We were quite pleased to see that the majority of college students and recent graduates who use CollegeRecruiter.com to find internships, entry-level jobs and other career opportunities were confident about their ability to find a new job quickly," said Steven Rothberg, president and founder of CollegeRecruiter.com. "We are, however, disappointed that those who are pessimistic are increasingly pessimistic."<br /><br />CollegeRecruiter.com updates the CollegeRecruiter.com Job Seeker Confidence Index on a monthly basis.<br />
