HP Certified Professional Certification Program Home Page
To find your way into the HP Certified Professional Program, this is the place to start. On this page you’ll find program overview and general certification information, as well as links to program news. But for the real deal on certifications available in your area, you must click on the world map at the bottom of this page to learn more about certification offerings available to you. That’s why all coverage in this story is based on the North American offerings, which are by far the most comprehensive and complete.

North America HP Certified Professional Program Offerings
Here’s where you’ll find the program overview, FAQs and details on sales, presales, integration and operating system categories, credentials and specialties within each credential. A certain amount of navigation is required to find individual elements, and HP’s certification pages are light on visual aids and graphical support, but all the information you need is buried in here. To find information about specific exams, it’s necessary to drill down to individual certification specialties (or you can search on specific HP exam numbers, if you prefer).

North America Exam Registration Procedures
Though this page sounds dry and devoid of interest beyond the details involved in signing up for an exam at Prometric, you’ll find a great deal more information, including exam prep tips, information about practice exams, timing your exams and an exam status check pointer.

HP Books
Pointers to a well-researched collection of books on HP topics and technologies, including titles that relate to elements of the HP Certified Professional Program.

IT Resource Center
Though not specifically aimed at certification, this collection of pages includes lots of information resources that certification candidates will find helpful, including maintenance and support data for both HP and Compaq products, technical databases, support information, access to online forums, pointers to training and education, highlights, useful links and more.

Third-Party/External HP-Related Resources

A somewhat dated, but still helpful, overview and analysis of the former Compaq ASE (now HP Certified Professional ASE) program, including reasonably detailed exam reviews, program information, resource pointers and more.

Boson Practice Tests
This URL takes you to a listing of all three HP practice tests available from Boson: #HP0-746 HP Overview Network Node Manager I for NT, #HP0-743 HP OpenView Network Node Manager II for UNIX/NT and #HP0-002 HP-UX System Administration Test I.

Though these resources are now somewhat dated, you’ll find information about ASE and Master ASE exams that’s still relevant to their current HP incarnations. Hopefully, the folks at CramSession will provide coverage of these new exams soon; judging from active discussions and useful content available there, it would be helpful for new candidates as well.

Professional organization aimed at those who use HP products, technologies or services in their business, this groups holds events and offers an online community and bi-monthly newsletter, along with technical resources. It also operates in cooperation with technical groups like openVMS.org and Tru64.org.

General resources for UNIX-related certifications, including those on HP-UX in the operating system category of the HP Certified Professional program. For this narrow audience, it’s definitely worth a visit.
