A new study by Duke University provides some new hope for all those IT pros fearing the ramifications of offshoring. The “Framing the Engineering Outsourcing Debate: Placing the United States on a Level Playing Field with China and India” report found that for every one million citizens, the United States is producing 750 technology specialists, compared with 500 in China and 200 in India. In fact, the study points out that many statistics noted in previous articles included not only four-year degrees, but also three-year degrees and diploma holders in China and India and therefore exacerbating offshoring worries.

However, whether or not this information simply triggers a sigh of relief or makes you jump for joy, do not feel too complacent. It is still a fact that China and India are definitely making headway as key players in the IT industry (no matter what the statistic above says). The fervor to learn more should be just as spirited as it was before reading those numbers. Historically, the IT industry has evolved rapidly, and with that in mind, anything could happen. So keep up the hard work, gain as much on-the-job experience across multiple platforms as you can, become a valuable asset to your organization and always be prepared for anything.
