These questions are based on 70-631 TS: Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, Configuring Microsoft Self Test Software Practice Test.

Objective: Deploy Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 (WSS)
Sub-objective: Configure WSS topology

Single answer, multiple choice

You are a network administrator for NuTex Corp. You are planning to deploy Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) 3.0 in a server farm environment. Which of these actions should you perform before starting the deployment?

  1. Provide credentials for the administrative accounts only.
  2. Ensure that all instances of WSS 3.0 in the same server farm are in different languages.
  3. Ensure that all instances of WSS 3.0 in the same server farm are in the same language.
  4. Provide credentials for the service accounts only.

Answer:
C. Ensure that all instances of WSS 3.0 in the same server farm are in the same language.

Tutorial:
Before starting the deployment, you should ensure that all instances of WSS 3.0 in the same server farm are in the same language. A server farm normally consists of one or more database servers and one or more servers running Internet Information Services (IIS) and WSS 3.0. The server running IIS is responsible for handling user requests, and the database server is used to store the content database.

Three types of topologies are used while deploying a server farm:

  • Single server with SQL Server: This topology has a single computer running the front-end Web component as well as the SQL Server back-end component.
  • Small server farm: This topology has one front-end Web server and one or more back-end databases.
  • Medium or large server farm: This topology has two or more front-end Web servers clustered with Network Load Balancing and one or more back-end SQL servers on a Microsoft Cluster Service (MSCS) cluster.

When deploying a server farm, you should ensure the following actions are performed before you begin deployment:

  • Provide the credentials for the various accounts, including the administrative and service accounts.
  • Ensure that WSS 3.0 is installed on the same drive on all the load-balanced front-end servers.
  • Ensure that all instances of WSS 3.0 in the same server farm are in the same language.
  • Ensure that WSS 3.0 is installed on a clean installation of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or Microsoft Windows Server 2008.

You should not provide credentials only for the administrative accounts before deploying WSS 3.0. Similarly, you should not provide credentials only for the service accounts before deployment. Credentials for all the accounts should be provided before deploying WSS 3.0, including the administrative accounts and service accounts.

You should not ensure that all instances of WSS 3.0 in the same server farm are in different languages. In a server farm, all the instances of WSS 3.0 should be in the same language.
