Dell has introduced a certification program that covers three major segments of enterprise information technology, including storage management, server management and networking. The program combines product knowledge with hands-on skills to challenge candidates who implement, manage and support Dell products on the job.

The Dell Certified Server Professional certification tests candidates’ knowledge of Dell PowerEdge hardware, firmware, OS installation, configuration, local and remote management and troubleshooting. Dell recommends candidates attend the online course, “Understanding Dell Servers and System Management,” as well as a three-day instructor-led course, “Dell Server Configuration and Management.” The Dell Certified Server Professional exam will be available in November 2003.

The Dell Certified Storage Networking Professional certification tests candidates’ ability to implement Dells storage in an existing IT infrastructure. This includes coverage of storage fundamentals and initial setup, configuration and management of Dell/EMC storage arrays, as well as the advanced features of Dell/EMC SAN solutions like SnapView and MirrorView, clustering and performance management. Dell recommends candidates attend two online courses, “Understanding Dell Servers and Systems Management” and “Understanding Dell Storage Networking Technologies,” plus two instructor-led courses, including the two-day course, “Implementing Dell Enterprise Storage Solutions” and the three-day course, “Implementing Data Protection on Dell Storage.”

The Dell Certified Networking Professional certification covers PowerConnect configuration, monitoring, upgrade management, high-performance workgroup connectivity, data center connectivity and switch aggregation. Dell recommends candidates earn the Network+ certification from CompTIA (see http://www.comptia.org/certification/network), which tests candidates’ technical skills in networking administration and support. Dell also recommends a five-day instructor-led course, “Building Dell Multilayer Networks.” The Dell Certified Networking Professional Exam will be available in November 2003.

Dell offers courses online as well as at its Technology and Education Center in Austin, Texas. Some courses are available in major cities across the United States. Online courses in server, storage and systems management are available now for $245. Certification exams can be taken through Prometric for $125.
