Use these top resources to study for Security+ certification.Next in my series of CompTIA study guides is Security+ SYO-301. This is a pretty solid entry-level certification for IT professionals looking to get their feet wet in security. Along with a few other certs, this is a great entry on anyone’s resume. As with the other guides, this will be broken down by free and paid resources.

GoCertify — This site has a great SYO-301 practice quiz. It gives you 15 interactive question and answers with explanations.
Proprofs — This site also has a great practice quiz with 50 questions and answers.
CrucialExams — This site has a great collection of practice exams to choose from. This one is definitely worth checking out if you’re looking to cram.
ProfessorMesser — Of course no list of free resources is complete without Professor Messer’s SYO-301 videos.

TestOut — You can’t mention CompTIA training resources without mentioning TestOut. Their Security Pro course is untouchable by any other product on the market, simply because it offers the complete package. Their simulations are amazing, often simulating entire offices down to blinking lights on the nic that only work if they’re plugged into the switch. At $495 for a standard user, it can be a bit pricey for some. You might look into the bundle of all their CompTIA courses for $695. Or, if you’re a student, you might be entitled to student pricing depending on your school.
Amazon — If you want Security+ books, Amazon is simply your best bet. No one has the selection and reviews that Amazon has. You usually can’t beat the price either.
CompTIA — You won’t find a better list of software to study for your CompTIA certs than CompTIA themselves. Simply choose the cert you’re looking to study for and the method you want to use to study (books, computer based, practice tests) and CompTIA will give you a list of resources they recommend.

ExamForce – They have great resources for a bunch of different certs, A+ included. Use the code gocert20 to get 20% off!

Udemy – Great source for user created courses, not just CompTIA.

With the list above, anyone should be able to pass the Security+ exam. As always, be sure to let me know in the comments if you find a resource I didn’t list, or if you disagree with my list. Especially comment if this is the best list you’ve ever seen (unlikely, I know).

If you’re looking for info on other CompTIA certifications, see my A+ 220-802 and 220-802 resources, and my Network+ N10-005 resources.
