City University of Seattle Launches CS courses

<p><strong>Bellevue, Wash. &mdash; Sept. 27</strong><br />City University of Seattle has introduced several new computer systems certificates to address the growing global demand for skilled professionals in the technology field.  </p><p>In 2006, nearly 150,000 jobs were created nationally in the technology field according to Cyberstates 2007, and in a report issued by the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Seattle is listed as the fifth-largest market for technology jobs behind Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay area, Washington D.C. and Boston.  </p><p>The need for new and retrained technology professionals has not decreased over the past several years &mdash; it&#39;s increasing.<br /> <br />According to the Business Software Alliance, as of the end of 2005, there were 11 million IT/software jobs globally, and that number is expected to rise by at least 5 percent each year through 2009.  </p><p>That pattern is proving to be true in this region &mdash; in the Seattle area, it&rsquo;s estimated that 38 percent of newly created jobs will be in technology, with computer and information science the third-fastest-growing occupation in King County, according to the Washington State Labor Market and Economics Analysis.  </p><p>To address the growing need for skilled IT/software professionals, City University of Seattle has launched several newly created and redesigned computer systems certificates that are available in-class at the Bellevue, Wash., and Renton, Wash., sites and online for anyone in the world who has a desire to sharpen or learn new skills in the computer science field. <br /> <br />All of the certificates being offered by City University of Seattle are designed to be completed within one academic year and can be taken for credit that can be applied to an undergraduate or graduate degree.  </p><p>New certificates include:  </p><ul><li>Computer Security</li><li>Database Technology</li><li>Java Programming</li><li>Managing with Technology</li><li>MS SQL Server Administration</li><li>Video Game Design and Testing <br /></li></ul><p>Redesigned certificates include: </p><ul><li>Networking/Telecommunications</li><li>Object-Oriented Programming <br /></li><li>C++/C#</li><li>Web Design</li><li>Web Languages</li><li>Technology Management</li></ul><p> <br />&ldquo;City University of Seattle distinguishes itself on the global front because of its focus on internationalization in learning rather than merely looking to expand globally,” said Dr. Wanda Gravett, dean of the City University of Seattle School of Management.  “The certificates carve out world-class opportunities to jump into and meet today&rsquo;s market demands anywhere.&rdquo; </p>
