Cisco Updates Certification, Exam Options
Cisco offers one of the most popular certification programs around, and it seems like there are constant changes and updates to the program—a sign of its vitality. In the past couple of months, Cisco has updated some of its exam options, introduced a new Cable Specialist certification and announced new self-study tools from Cisco Press.
Cisco will offer an updated Cisco Optical Specialist certification that provides two training paths focused on SONET and on SDH. Those who earn this credential are able to design, provision, operate and perform basic troubleshooting using the ONS 15454, extend distances using the ONS 15216 product family and show proficiency of Cisco fiber-optic principles and DWDM transmission.
Cisco is also offering the Cisco Cable Communications Specialist exam (#9E0-701), after a brief absence. This exam, in combination with a valid Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification, is the path toward Cisco Cable Communications Specialist 1 certification. To prepare for the exam, candidates can take two courses: Introduction to Cisco Cable Routers-DOCSIS (ICCR) and Introduction to Cisco Network Registrar (CNR).
As of March 10, Cisco has simplified the recertification and exam process for those who have or are preparing for Cisco Certified Internetwork Professional (CCIP) certification. The BGP+MPLS exam (#642-691) combines two exams covering the materials presented in the BGP and MPLS courses. The exam is targeted for candidates getting ready to recertify on CCIP, but it is also available to new candidates, allowing them to reduce the number of exams needed to meet certification requirements.
Cisco has also streamlined its recertification process for IP Telephony Specialist credentials, including Cisco IP Telephony Design Specialist, Cisco IP Telephony Operations Specialist and Cisco IP Telephony Support Specialist. Candidates can renew any of these three certifications by completing a single technology exam for that certification. In addition to requalifying the Specialist certification for two years, one of these exams will also update the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) for an additional three years. Exam options include #9E0-412, Design Specialist; #9E0-422, Operations Specialist; and #9E0-441, Support Specialist.
Candidates who are preparing for Cisco certification exams know that practice makes perfect. To provide the practice needed for successful testing, Cisco Press has introduced a new self-study tool for the Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) and Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) certification exams #640-861, DESGN, and #642-871, ARCH. The CCDA/CCDP Flash Cards and Exam Practice Pack provide many ways to prepare for these exams.
