Certification Magazine: Back in Business

Certification Magazine is back!Welcome to the first issue of Certification Magazine since before there was an iPhone 3G. It’s good to be back. A lot can change in nearly six years, especially in an industry that moves at the speed of a SPARC T5 — there hasn’t been a print edition of Certification Magazine since June 2008 — but the role of certification in the information technology world is as important today as it’s ever been.

That’s one reason why GoCertify acquired Certification Magazine from prior publisher MediaTec last year. IT is booming and tech companies are scouring the workforce to find the most qualified workers to build, protect and service the silicon engine of the 21st century. It’s an exciting time, and certification is a path that both old pros and young bucks can follow right to where the action is.

Not so long ago, Certification Magazine was the leading independent voice in the IT certification industry. That voice got a little softer in 2008, but CertMag.com has been carrying on the mission of its ink-and-paper predecessor, and we’re proud to have them operating side-by-side once again. We think certification can make people’s lives better and we want everyone to understand how.

Both the magazine and the website have been recently retooled and we intend to keep making them better. CertMag.com will provide access to a rich archive of existing certification information, and we’ve already begun adding new content.

Despite its few years’ sabbatical, Certification Magazine has stayed on people’s minds. One of our first orders of business after taking over the brand was to initiate a new salary survey — a staple of the magazine’s past, present and future — and our diminished media presence was no obstacle to recruiting enthusiastic participation from IT professionals around the globe.

We’re delighted by that level of interest and thrilled to be getting back in the game on a permanent basis. We think the magazine can thrive as a source of information and encouragement for people who care as much about IT certification as we do. We have a new vision and a rejuvenated purpose, but our dedication to helping people get the education and training to succeed in today’s IT workforce hasn’t changed.
