Cbeyond Connects to Customers With Acme Packet

Boston — Nov. 14
Acme Packet®, a session border control solutions provider, announced that Cbeyond® has deployed Acme Packet's Net-Net® session border controllers (SBCs) to enhance its industry-leading Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) trunking service, BeyondVoice® with SIPconnect®. Acme Packet's SBCs enhance Cbeyond's service by enabling NAT traversal, increasing reliability and providing additional security capabilities that protect Cbeyond's VoIP infrastructure.

Cbeyond delivers integrated packages of communications and IT services to more than 31,000 small businesses throughout the United States. The company offers more than 20 productivity-enhancing applications including BlackBerry®, broadband laptop access, Web hosting and virtual private networking. Cbeyond manages these services over a private, 100 percent VoIP facilities-based network. Cbeyond's BeyondVoice service offers an integrated package of voice and data applications designed to meet the communications needs of small businesses. Using SIPconnect, Cbeyond customers have the option of connecting their IP PBX with Cbeyond's VoIP network using SIP trunking, which results in an end-to-end IP service.

Both Cbeyond's BeyondVoice with SIPconnect service and Acme Packet's Net-Net SBCs are compliant with SIPconnect. SIPconnect is a SIP Forum initiative that builds on existing IETF standards to define a method for seamless IP interconnection between IP PBXs and VoIP service provider networks by specifying reference architectures, required protocols and features and implementation rules. Acme Packet's SBCs control the IP network borders in compliance with SIPconnect to ensure interoperability and deliver secure, high-quality service.

"Our goal is to afford our small business customers with the same advanced technology and premium services available to large enterprises," said Chris Gatch, CTO at Cbeyond. "Acme Packet helps us achieve this by providing the session border control solutions necessary to offer a highly interoperable SIP trunking service, while securing our network and reducing costs."

"The SIPconnect program not only promotes the widespread adoption of the SIP standard, it also connects like-minded, quality-driven service providers and equipment vendors," explained Seamus Hourihan, vice president of marketing and product management at Acme Packet. "Cbeyond is leveraging Acme Packet's SBCs to enable trusted, high-quality SIP-based solutions, such as SIPconnect-compliant SIP trunking."

Acme Packet's Net-Net SBCs protect Cbeyond's VoIP network architecture with Net-SAFE® features that include topology hiding, denial of service (DoS) protection, TLS for signaling encryption and access control. Hosted NAT traversal (HNT), allows for secure traversal of enterprise calls without requiring changes to equipment located at the business customer premises. The Net-Net SBCs ensure reliability of BeyondVoice SIP trunking by handling application server fail-over on behalf of the IP PBX.
